About
With more than 30 years experience as a Registered Nurse working with caregivers in both the home and the institutional setting I have gained a wealth of information regarding the emotional issues that carers face on a daily basis.
The fear of being isolated from their friends and other family members and the guilt that is associated with a caregiving role in the family home are two of the major reasons that caregivers develop carer burnout.
To be able to die at home surrounded by family and friends is the wish of the majority who have a terminal illness, and Susan’s philosophy is that to allow a carer to be success in this journey they must have balance not only with emotional issues, mental knowledge and physical needs but also with their values and attitude to their loved ones approaching death.
Susan has always found that the more access a caregiver has to the information that is relevant to them the greater is their ability to cope. The use of the internet has shown how caregivers can receive weekly information on all aspects of their role including the caring role, financial needs, pain management and spirituality needs. This service is like having someone hold the carers hand every step of the way.
Susan lives with her partner in Empire Vale, Australia. As well as her Registered Nursing and Nursing Education qualifications, she has over the years studied Reiki, Aromatherapy, Meditation and Counselling including using NLP and Hypnotherapy and Grief Counselling. She has always been involved with local carer organizations, providing guidance and assistance to many carers, allowing them to look on their caregiving role as a journey and helping them develop a sense of compassion and mindfulness to end-of-life care.
